For the Home
At Crossroads Trade we offer products to transform your house into a home that reflects your personality. Our selection includes tableware, home textiles, picture frames, candles and boxes from all over the world. You’ll also find a rotating assortment of wind chimes, masks, mirrors, salad bowls, salt and pepper shakers, candleholders, mugs and trays.
We work with artisans and cooperatives under many different conditions. That means we may not always be able to purchase a particular product on a predictable basis. This can happen for a number of reasons such as political strife, scarcity of raw materials, or even the disbanding of a cooperative. For example, we'll likely always have boxes, but not necessarily from the same country or supplier. If you fall in love with something, consider purchasing it now to ensure its availability.
Each product's journey to our store was long. Each has a story to tell. Here are just a few:
Our rich and vivid embroidered cushion covers come from a women's employment project in Lebanon taking place in several Palestinian refugee camps. Your purchase provides women with the resources to support their families. It also helps them maintain the traditional techniques and motifs of their native villages.
Our boxes come from many countries, including Mexico, Armenia, Gaza, Syria, Tibet, Thailand and Bolivia. The brightly painted blue and green Bolivian boxes come from a coop in the lowlands near the Brazilian border. The coop identifies young, homeless men with artistic talent and employs them. Our ceramic boxes from Gaza have an even longer journey. Even when the artisans have access to the raw materials to make them, getting them out of Gaza is a major challenge. Each box we have in the store depends on the good will of someone coming out of Gaza, who carries it out on our behalf.
We carry a large number of Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel’s colorful products that mix traditional and modern motifs. His workshop employs new immigrants and people with developmental disabilities to make candle holders, boxes, salt and pepper shakers and Judaica.
Our tea sets from Bali, mugs from Bulgaria, salad tongs from Kenya, and baskets from Uganda all make wonderful housewarming and wedding presents. All of them say welcome to those who enter.
Crossroads Trade wants your feedback and ideas. Your purchase will make a substantial difference in the life of an artisan. Please contact us.by phone at 617-975-2001 or by email if you would like to see more examples, have any questions, or would like more information.
